Nikos Isaris is Deputy Head of the Unit responsible for Experimental Platforms within the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. The Unit is responsible for Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE).

FIRE addresses the need for experimental validation of highly innovative and revolutionary ideas for the future Internet in large-scale environments. It promotes the concept of experimentally-driven research, combining visionary academic research with the wide-scale testing and experimentation that is required for industry.

FIRE also works to create a dynamic, sustainable, large-scale European Experimental Infrastructure, which is constructed by gradually connecting and federating existing and upcoming testbeds for Future Internet technologies. Ultimately, FIRE aims to provide a framework in which European research on Future Internet can flourish and establish Europe as a key player in defining Future Internet concepts globally.

Before that Nikos worked in the Directorate-General for Home Affairs in the Unit responsible for large-scale IT systems and Biometrics, in the Commission’s Taxation and Customs Union Directorate-General as IT Project Manager and before that in the private banking and electronic banking sectors in his home country Greece.

He holds an MBA with Honours from ALBA, a Master’s degree with Distinction in Data Communications and Networks from University College London and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Heraklion in Crete.
